The Age of Influencers: Guidance or Misguidance?
(Dr Zahoor Ahmed Danish)
In today’s world, influence no longer belongs only to governments, wealth, or major media houses. A single mobile camera, a short video, a viral sentence, or a trending hashtag can shape millions of minds.
An influencer is no longer merely a “famous person.” Today, an influencer may become an informal teacher, a brand ambassador, an opinion-maker, a preacher, a journalist, or even a social guide.
The real question is:
Is this influence leading us toward guidance or misguidance?
A good influencer can inspire people toward knowledge, ethics, health, education, social service, religious awareness, and a positive lifestyle. A teacher can turn YouTube into a free academy. A doctor can spread authentic health guidance. A sincere religious creator can remind people of prayer, parents’ rights, lawful earnings, and the protection of one’s tongue.
But the same digital world can also mislead.
When followers are mistaken for knowledge, views for truth, and virality for righteousness, misguidance begins. A beautiful camera, cinematic lighting, and millions of likes cannot turn a false statement into truth.
Today, fake remedies are sold in the name of health, unauthenticated sayings in the name of religion, emotional propaganda in the name of politics, fake courses in the name of business, and overnight success dreams in the name of motivation.
The greatest danger is for the younger generation. They compare their real lives with edited lifestyles, their slow progress with viral success stories, their faces with filters, and their income with sponsored luxury.
The result is anxiety, ingratitude, inferiority complex, and unrealistic desires.
Influencers must remember: followers are not numbers; they are human beings. Behind every view is a mind, a heart, a family, and a future. Influence is a trust, not a game.
Viewers must also remember: following someone is not just pressing a button; it is opening the door of your mind to someone. The person you listen to every day gradually begins to speak from within you.
A simple principle:
If you would not want someone to be your child’s teacher, do not make that person part of your child’s daily feed.
The age of influencers is neither a blessing nor a curse in itself; it is a test.
Guidance exists where there is knowledge, honesty, modesty, transparency, service, and responsibility.
Misguidance exists where there is falsehood, showmanship, immodesty, greed, superficiality, and blind following.
The wisdom of this age is clear:
Human beings should use the screen; the screen should not use human beings.
